Moderation is the Key

Last night we had our RS activity. For this activity the theme was Moderation is the Key.

We divided the sisters into 4 teams. I had pre-arranged to have 4 team captains that could perform various physical activities.

After dinner we had a relay race.

Leg 1 - we had 2 meals and a snack that sisters had to figure out the calorie count of.
Leg 2 - sisters had to pack a lunch with no more than 500 calories. They got to choose what to put in the lunch from the various items that we had.
Leg 3 - sisters had to guess how many almonds were in one serving.
Leg 4 - sisters had to match food items for weight watcher points
Leg 5 - the team captains had to perform various yoga poses.

It was a great evening and a fun way to learn about calories, portion sizes, and nutrition in general.

The Hunt is Over

This past Thursday I hosted by second RS Meeting (or whatever they are calling them these days). The theme of the event was "What is Your Destination?". We gave the sisters a bag to pack for their journey and told them they must bring their scriptures but as for the items in the bag was their choice and to remember it was a spiritual journey.

We started the evening having salad bar and then the sister went on a Scavenger hunt. I wrote up clues that they had to use their scriptures to find a reference and key word. For most of the clues they had to go searching rooms in the church to get their next clue as well as pick up an item for the clue. I had them picking up things such as a bear (to remember to bear each others burdens), a mustard seed (faith), a blanket (comforter), temple picture, pass along card (missionary work), and even had them fold a towel for service.

I also checked out their bags and gave out prizes for things in their bags. Items sisters packed included a butterfly kit, a piece of bread, temple recommend, temple figurine, blanket, comfort booties, pink fuzzy heart pillow, a pencil with 8 colors, a music CD, a book, the RS president brought her notebook in her bag, a map, and some other crazy things.

It was so much fun and the sisters really enjoyed it. We ended the evening eating cookies.

Time in a Nutshell

Wow, it is crazy that almost a full year has gone by since I last posted. I know I have let life get in the way and not taken "me" time to do things. So here is some things that have gone on since I last posted:

1. A full semester at Hillsborough Community College has gone by and we are in the last 6 weeks or so of another semester. I am loving every minute of teaching full-time. My students are great and it has been such a learning experience for me. The best part is actually having time to enjoy life. I do miss not getting to work with my mom and sister at the same school, but people who see me say I look so much happier now then they have seen me in years.

2. I attended my first conference as a full-time instructor. It was great. I learned so much and can't wait for the next conference.

3. I became the Relief Society Meeting Coordinator for our ward. I actually hosted our first meeting last week which was the birthday celebration. We played games to celebrate. We started out with a name game, then we had a bingo game where sisters had to get other sisters to sign their bingo cards, and we ended with a Did you Ever game. It was a blast and I am looking forward to the next meeting.

4. My sister, S, had a stroke back in December. From that I learned how fragile life can be and how much prayer and fasting works. She is doing better but still has some way to go.

5. I joined Facebook which is much easier for me to go in and update.

6. I attended Time Out for Women back in early March. It is still one of the best things I can do for myself and will go every chance that I get.

I think that is it for now. I am sure other things have transpired but unless you take the time to post at the time you forget.
